Dr. Ezra Tzfadya
Co-Founding Director
Dr. Ezra Tzfadya is the co-founding director of The Forum for Critical Jewish Thought. He is both a policy, advocacy, and interreligious dialogue practitioner, and an academic expert on Shia Islamic and Jewish political theology. For the last 4 years, he has led the "Shia Islamic and Jewish Legal Reasoning in Dialogue" program at Indiana University-Bloomington's Center for the Study of the Middle East, where he serves as Senior Fellow. Ezra holds a doctorate in Islamic Studies from the University of Erlangen (Germany), and recently guest-edited a special issue of the Journal of Jewish Thought and Philosophy (JJTP) on "Jewish Political Theology and the Crises of Contemporary Israel." Ezra has taught at institutions such as Fordham, Rutgers-New Brunswick, IU-Bloomington, and the University of Bamberg (Germany).
Ezra has also worked as Iran Policy Fellow at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), New York Field Director at J Street, and Schonfeld Fellow at the American Jewish Committee's Berlin office. He has also been involved in Track 2/1.5 diplomacy between the U.S. and the Islamic world.
